A strategic cooperation signing ceremony was successfully held at the Rice Industry Engineering and Technology Research Institute of Yangzhou University. Nanjing Red Sun Co., Ltd., Yangzhou University and Nantong Huizhifeng Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. officially inked a tripartite cooperation deal to jointly carry out research and development, field demonstration and full industrial chain commercialization of the Sanfeng series rice products.
Zhang Hongcheng, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chief Scientist of Yangzhou University’s Rice Industry Engineering and Technology Research Institute, attended the ceremony and offered professional technical guidance. Zhao Fuming, General Manager of Red Sun Co., Ltd., led the company delegation to participate in the signing event.
Frequent extreme weather including high temperature, heavy rain and drought has severely affected rice growth in recent years. Weak lodging resistance and insufficient comprehensive stress tolerance have become key obstacles to stable rice output and farmers’ income growth.
During the post-event exchange session, Academician Zhang Hongcheng analyzed the current challenges of rice planting across the Yangtze River Basin and nationwide. He pointed out that most rice varieties are deficient in resistance to lodging, flood, drought, pests and plant diseases. Strengthening crop stress resistance and supporting agricultural technologies is critical to maintaining stable grain production, which makes the high-yield and stable-output Sanfeng rice series highly valuable for large-scale promotion.
A detailed industrialization roadmap for Sanfeng rice was released on site, covering five core work modules: variety purification and rejuvenation, integrated green cultivation technologies, regional trial and demonstration site construction, customized agrochemical and agricultural input solutions, and standardized planting guidelines. Clear phased schedules and strict technical quality standards were also established.
Red Sun takes the leading role in translating scientific research achievements into commercial applications. The enterprise is expected to break down barriers between R&D, production and marketing, and turn advanced laboratory cultivation technologies into practical yield growth on farmland.
Against the backdrop of safeguarding national food security amid frequent natural disasters, the tripartite cooperation has drawn high expectations. All parties will prioritize rice quality improvement and yield increase, with a core focus on the combined application of high-quality seeds, advanced cultivation techniques and qualified agricultural supplies.
Relying on Yangzhou University’s leading cultivation research capabilities, Red Sun’s mature industrial operation platform and Huizhifeng’s local agricultural technology promotion network, the alliance aims to build a replicable, scalable planting model for stable rice production. This joint effort will continuously enhance regional rice productivity and contribute to national food security.
On behalf of Red Sun, Zhao Fuming signed the cooperation agreement and shared the company’s supporting plans. Red Sun will build a national integrated promotion and technical service system, integrate upstream and downstream resources of agricultural materials, sales channels and field trials, and roll out long-term marketing and demonstration promotion strategies. Large-scale standardized rice planting demonstration bases will also be constructed nationwide.
Leveraging its strengths in agrochemical manufacturing, brand operation and nationwide distribution networks, Red Sun will conduct in-depth cooperation with Yangzhou University’s research team and Huizhifeng’s grassroots agricultural technology implementation team. The three parties will build a complete closed-loop industry-university-research cooperation system, accelerate the large-scale promotion of Sanfeng rice products, and help farmers achieve sustained high rice yields and steady income growth.
This cooperation sets a benchmark model for the domestic rice industry. The three partners have clear job division and complementary advantages: Yangzhou University provides core academic and technical support; Nantong Huizhifeng is responsible for field trials, regional demonstration and technology promotion; Red Sun undertakes large-scale production, brand building and national market expansion.
In the next phase, the three parties will immediately launch sowing tests, matching of special fertilizers and pesticides, as well as official registration trials. Joint efforts will be made to fuel the high-quality development of the modern rice industry with advanced agricultural science and technology.
