Pyridine is a flammable liquid with strong irritation. It affects the central nervous system. Exposure can be through inhalation, ingestion, or skin contact. Long-term exposure may harm liver, kidneys, and cause skin inflammation.
For skin contact, remove contaminated clothing and rinse with water. For eye exposure, rinse with water or saline for 15 minutes. If inhaled, move to fresh air and give oxygen if needed. For ingestion, give water to conscious patients and seek medical help.
Pyridine vapors form explosive mixtures with air. It reacts with oxidizers. Firefighters should use water spray, foam, CO₂, dry powder, or sand. Wear full protective suits and breathing equipment. Do not use acid or alkali extinguishers.
